Mental Health + Neurodiversity: Clarifying Choices to Complex Struggles
Understanding the landscape of services in the world of mental health can be daunting, especially when considering neurodiversity. Parents wonder “What kind of support does my child need? Do we need to increase care and what does that look like? What kind of support do I need as a parent? What about sibling support?”
Team Wonder’s experience lies in helping parents navigate various levels of care appropriate for their child and family and providing support at key points in the journey. This presentation will cover the continuum of care in mental health from the story of a parent/child/family’s journey. We will highlight the experience of a wilderness therapy program from the lens of a therapist working with youth and parents before, during, and after this type of program.
Takeaways from our discussion:
- Knowledge of the continuum of care in mental health services
- Understanding of struggles present in levels of care
- Wilderness therapy program understanding – pros and cons
- How to access these supports when needed.
What else would you like to know about? We will allow time for Q&A at the end.
