Virtual Workshop: On the Fence of Independent Living
Tickets
Oct 7 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Humanex Academy is excited to once again be hosting this great workshop for parents at Humanex and in the community. Please note that there are only 15 spots available, so make sure to RSVP early.

Description of Workshop: Does your child struggle with executive functioning, sensory, attention, memory, mood issues or age appropriate independence skills? As our kids’ approach “post -secondary” age, what are their
opportunities, what supports and services are in place for them? How do we access those? Will
my child even qualify? What about vocation and education? Do we need a special needs trust?
What do we need to be prepared for legally and financially? How do we plan if we aren’t sure our
child will be employed and living independently? What if they are later?

This is a “ZOOM” VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

RSVP by OCTOBER 5TH to Lucie Cardwell lcardwell@financialguide.com or 720-259-6070. We will
send you the proper link and ID for the workshop.

To allow for questions and time, we like to keep these workshops to a maximum of 15 attendees. First come, first serve. Learn coordinated financial and legal strategies that provide a desired outcome for your
child and family. Explore potential eligibilities for public benefits, resources and services that
benefit your high functioning child.

Melissa J. Edelman, CLU, ChSNC Melissa has worked for over twenty-five years in the financial services
industry. She works extensively with special needs families to plan the entire family’s financial future
with an eye to the lifetime of the child with disabilities. She is also a parent of two adopted children, one
with “high functioning” special needs. She is a Chartered Special Needs Consultant & Financial Advisor.

Luke Wheeland, Director of Community Outreach and Education, The Arc of Arapahoe/Douglas Luke
will discuss the programs and services available to adults in Colorado. These programs are funded by
state and federal Medicaid funding and administered by local Community Centered Boards. Many of
these resources are designed for adults that need moderate help in daily living, independence and
vocation/training. Luke has nearly 15 years of professional experience working with individuals with
I/DD. He’s held a variety of roles including, Program Manager of a Program Approved Service Agency
(PASA), and Senior Program Manager to Interim Case Manager with Developmental Pathways for 10 years.
